In all over the world, the construction industry is the main source of economic development and is considered as an essential part of each country’s wealth. In this industry, all of the building projects are engaged in three principal factors of cost, time, and quality. In fact, quality is one of the most significant competitive factors in construction, which determines success of the project. Such that, high quality in the construction industry leads to its high efficiency. However, the significant factor in maintaining the quality of buildings and their retrofit, is continuous monitoring over them. The main monitoring factor in the construction industry is supervising. Unfortunately, despite the significance of the construction industry, poor performance of supervisors has made many urban constructions not to have the needed quality and strength. In Iran, we can observe low quality of buildings, such that according to surveys, 62% of undesirable performance in the construction industry is due to lack of proper supervision. Different factors can influence effectiveness of a supervisor, and result in poor supervision systems. Now, it should be stated that by better determination of effective factors on the performance of supervisors, and through rooting their actions, we can improve their performance in the construction industry. In this regard, to start effective factors on the performance of supervisors should be determined and prioritized. Therefore, this study evaluates the need to determine and prioritize effective factors on the performance of supervisors, through an in-depth literature review. This study provides a suitable context for entrance to future studies; such that by determining these factors, classifying and prioritizing them, and presenting appropriate solutions in the future studies, we can contribute to improvement of performance of supervisorsen_US
